  Decoding the City of South Lake Tahoe Short-Term Rental Laws Measure T is the core of South Lake Tahoe’s STR regulations. The city introduced it in response to growing concerns about the impact of short-term rentals on South Lake Tahoe’s neighborhoods. Read on to learn the key elements of Measure T. Geographic Scope Measure T prohibits vacation rentals outside of the city’s tourist core. It means the city bans short-term rentals within the limits of South Lake Tahoe, except for specific areas like the tourist core. Phasing Out Existing Permits Measure T gradually eliminated VHR permits in residential areas and multi-family properties in South Lake Tahoe. This process lasted for three years and ended on December 31, 2021. Since December 2018, the city has granted no new permits for VHRs in residential areas.
